hey!
I'm playing Baten Kaitos 1+2 atm and i totally love it.
The "static" sceneries and camera angles, the slow pace, the "classic" jrpg feeling that reminds me of the umm.. good old times when i was a kid explorign video games for the first time.
I have to admit that I never heard of Baten kaitos before, and now i am wodnering if i maybe missed out on some super awesome gems that you can recommend to me
- that's why i'm creating this post.
I don't need a fancy special fight system as in Baten kaitos. I love turn based combat, a little bit of grinding, a classic "hero-story", some gearing up, some secrets, some secret hard bosses, some nice side content with in the best case nice rewards, some exploring. That's pretty much it.
Oh btw - i tried playing Fire Emplem etc - but i'm not thaaaat mucha fan of these ff-tactics-style games.

(I was thinking about getting Grandia next, after finishing Baten kaitos)

Here's a list of some of the games i loved:
- Breath of Fire 2 (The first jrpg i ever played on my SNES)
- Paper Mario 2
- Final Fantasy 3+6 (never played the other ones tbh. I probably should tackle 7?)
- Dragon Quest (i only played 13 until now)
- Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
- Secret of Mana

Thank you in advance and have a great day,
tobi

Breath of Fire 1, 3, and 4.

Lufia II (you can skip 1. Lufia II is better and it's a prequel; it literally ends where Lufia 1 starts)

Added all of them to my list, thank you! I'm actually pretty surprised rn that i never got the idea "i could actually play the other BoF games" on my own :D

There's also a Breath of Fire V (aka Dragon Quarter), but it's so different from the others that you may not enjoy it. Personally, it's my favorite game of the series, but some people hate it so much that they pretend it doesn't exist.

So all I say is go into it with an open mind. :D

(There is, technically, a Breath of Fire 6 as well, but because that was an online game whose servers have since been shut down, it literally does not exist anymore)

You played Dragon Quest 13!? Whoa, you must be a time traveler or something, the newest Dragon Quest atm is DQ11.

Jokes aside, any of the other Dragon Quest games are great choices, highly recommend DQ3, DQ4, DQ5(one of the best Jrpgs ever made) and DQ8.

Chrono Trigger, Soul Blazer, Final Fantasy IV, Lufia 2, and Tales of Phantasia are all great.

Phantasy Star IV is a fantastic JRPG. It has a good story, great characters and presentation, and the battle mechanics have some nice depth with combo attacks, vehicles, and more.
