Be careful with those. The fact that they're passing off a Pokemon Green means that it's a repro. If you buy them be sure to inspect them super close to make sure they're genuine

Your post doesn’t come off as sarcastic. Also, that just isn’t true. People trade in classic Pokémon games all the time. I’ve seen them pop up at my local shop in pretty big numbers too, along with some repros.

Assuming that means reproductions, aka aftermarket. Do they still function as if they’re real? If so, are they cost effective to make? Like- can I buy a cartridge with red on it that basically works the same and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?

I don't know a ton about it, but I have seen some mentions of random game crashes here and there. No idea if this is limited to specific reproductions or if they are all that low quality.

There are possibilities of crashes, save bugs, and no real-game compatibility, but tbh I've never experienced it and I was able to trade with legit games, you would think it would happen with every other game with how much people mention it.

I've never tried one but all the accusations I hear are that they're poorly made and eventually die because the ROM space isn't write-protected, and the game ends up writing over the ROM at some point. Have also heard that repros can't trade with legit Pokemon games, only other repros.
Now I'm kinda interested, can you post pics and details with the repro(s) you have? If not just for the curiosity, would also be nice to see what these boards look like.

Yeah they work like the real thing but the problem is that the more people buy these the more fakes there will be in the market making it hard for collectors of the real thing to obtain them if they don't know what they are looking for. I seen a couple of fake carts at my local retro store and the guy up front said he was clueless about that and took them off the shelf when I pulled up a comparison pic on my phone. It could prob happen to anyone buying these games. The fakes are getting scarily good but a pristine clean non ripped label with no scratches is usually a dead giveaway.

Bought a Minish Cap repro, before understanding what they were. Got to the final dungeon, the screen went black. Powered down, powered back on, nothing. Cart completely done.
Figured out it was a repro, bought a legitimate copy and played through it from beginning to end again. I'll never buy a repro again, period.

It depends how they were made. Some repros are great. Other repros like my GBA repro of Dragon Quest 4 will save 40 hours of gameplay just to erase it all because you stopped playing for two days….

First off, crystal doesn't come in a dmg cartridge.
Secondly, green does not exist outside japan, and would have a completely different label and in a gray cartridge.

There's plenty of others. Hard to tell from the pictures but most all the labels are the wrong tints/too dull.
Shop should very clearly label them as repros, and should sell from $5-10 depending on quality.

Well, the gen 1 green cartridge (top right) is a pretty clear sign. That just doesn’t exist (with that cover art). Green was an original gen 1 color in Japan, but the cover art is different and the cartridge was grey.

Exactly, but I guess some people still like to play on the original cartridge. Most repros I’ve seen are extremely overpriced up the ass. Hard pass lol

All of them are great options if all you care about is playing the game. As long as a repro isn't being priced as if it was an original as well as advertised it's a repro cart, no harm done.

Part of me is happy that people can experience the old Pokemon games, but I do think repros, other than translations of things like Green, are real bad. Just puts a ton of products on the market that people will trade/gift around and eventually (probably unknowingly) pass off as the real thing, and end up costing someone a bunch of money.
I question the integrity of any store that sells them. If you want to buy repros, just get them online. It's exactly what this store did and was probably half the price.

Repros are just good for some people that don't really want to pay for the quality.
At this level better off emulating it.. Weird crash can occurs , weird save file , corruption, etc. It happened to me last year.
Both are piracy concerning but also they are not really buyable nowadays sooo...Nintendo and Game Freak don't really leave us some choice overall.

All 100% fake, Look at the labels, all in pristine condition and open out of the box? I don't think so, Any retro shop that sells preproduction carts and charges a lot for them should be ashamed.
