I've tried posting on various subs, but it just gets ignored

I've been playing Pokemon FireRed on the mGBA emulator for a week, and then all of a sudden the file name got replaced with "xxxxxxx.gba", and it deleted all of my saved progress. Is there any way to fix this? I really don't want to start the game all over again

Can you find where the save files are stored? Normally the game file name and the save file name have to match (e.g., if one is abcdef.gba, the other has to be abcdef.sav or something similar). I suspect your save file is still there, but when the file name changed, the name mismatch made it seem like it was gone.

I have two .gba files for this game (not sure why there's a second one), neither of them saved my progress

The one with the normal name is in a folder with a .sav file but it didnt save my progress either

I have no idea where it went

You could try renaming the .sav file to xxxxxxx.sav & moving it to the main folder

Search in the main folder for *.sav & one at a time try renaming each .sav file to the same name as your rom file, then launch the game & see if it works. You may also have to move each .sav file to the same folder as the rom, or to a dedicated save folder if the emu uses a save folder
